Minutes: January 13, 2022

President Heidi Deuster called the meeting to order.

All Present signed in and introduced themselves

Treasurer’s report read by Kim B. via Zoom motion passed to accept by Dale and 2nd by Alissa Simmons.

Secretary’s report was read by Michelle H. motion passed to accept by Lori S. 2nd by Dale


OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Michelle gave update on Jefferson County 2022 Guide…Information for Palmyra was all sent in. Michelle suggested getting input from members on content at the September or October meeting the year before. Ashley S. suggested changing pictures every year

  2. Kim gave update on hiring CPA to do Chamber taxes. Dale suggested due to Chamber income is under $50,000 per year that we file online as it’s free. Kim will follow up and file for Epostcard at irs.gov and get password. No CPA needed.

  3. Discussed Chamber created meetings as an event on Facebook. Ashley will check into this. She has created events quarterly and tagged businesses.

  4. Michelle gave update on website calendar. Members are to send in events and Kirstin will post to website calendar.



New Business:

  1. It was suggested officers meet to create a calendar for Chamber responsibilities. This would help to better organize responsibilities.

  2. Officer Elections went as follows…Heidi announced that the positions of Treasurer and VP were up for a vote. Heidi asked for nominations. No one suggested anyone. Heidi nominated Ashley for VP for another term, 2nd by Lori S. Motion passed. Heidi nominated Kim for Treasurer for another term, 2nd by Lori S. Motion passed.

  3. Membership dues…Michelle will deliver completed labels to Ashley to mail to members and potential members. School Lady suggested mailing memberships to the school and Hook & Shuttle

  4. Shining Star nomination for March is Mind and Heart LLC by Rebecca 2nd by Michelle Motion passed. Dale suggested Airport for May and June to bring attention to Fly In. Heidi suggested possibly having Shining Star quarterly. Shining Star for April, May, June is Fly-In Club Motion by Laura 2nd by Alissa Motion passed. Whitney T. suggested listing past Shining Stars on website.

  5. Discussion ensued about keeping two bank accounts. It was decided to transfer all funds to savings except $1000 to be kept in checking account. Motion by Ashley 2nd by Laurie Motion passed.



Additional Community Events and Announcements:

  1. Outstanding Student Banquet date discussed possibly March 10th to be held at T&D, Community Center or Legion Hall

  2. The Palmyra Beautification Committee is looking for quilts to display. They are also working with the school to build planter boxes for the village. The meet every other Monday at CJ’s

  3. Friends of the Library invited everyone to their meetings. Also suggested everyone attend the library’s book sales.

  4. School Board Representative Tara thanked the Chamber for all their support and said someone would be regularly attending meetings. She shared Dr. Frey is working bringing on new programs to the school. There will be a Panther printing and graphics class. The Marketing class will be reaching out to new businesses. Suggested we use them for Chamber Brochure. There will be a diesel program at the High School that they are partnering with Peterbilt on. The wood class is building a 3-person boat. Robotics is also working on the boat.

  5. Reminder the Lions Club Fisheree is January 29, 2022

  6. Rick J. handed out Fliers for the Friends of Palmyra Airport Appreciation Event. It is on February 5th at T&D’s. Flying club is asking for donations for scholarships and airport donations. He discussed 88 Charlie program which teaches youth to rebuild planes in exchange for flying hours. Great program and organization. He also shared a story about an individual who was in the program and went on to an aviation career.

  7. Dale shared the Legion would be doing a 50/50 raffle to keep the cost down on the pancake breakfast. He also suggested memory ribbons on the lamp posts with the Christmas lights. Ashley suggested coordinating with the Christmas decoration group.
